Olga Ten is an artist based in the Netherlands. Her practice is rooted in traditional Korean techniques of painting on hanji paper and silk using mineral pigments. Through her work, she explores fragments of her ancestry and the intuitive freedom found in the present.
Following years of practicing Minhwa on hanji paper, her recent time at Jinchae Lab in Seoul was a return to the 'beginner’s mind' — a rigorous immersion into the complex process of preparing and painting on silk. This beautiful art is a discipline of patience and total presence that gradually reveals its secrets over the years of practice.
Every piece created in her studio in the Netherlands is a step in a longer journey of reconnection. Through this personal lens, Olga invites you to witness her interpretation of a centuries-old discipline.
